I'm trying to update my copy of FF 3.5.6 (on Windows XP) to 3.5.7.

At first, FF said it couldn't verify the integrity of the incremental
update, so it was going to download the complete update.

The complete update downloaded almost all the way to the end, then hung.
After about 10 minutes of going nowhere, I figured I might have lost the
connection to the server, so I closed FF and did other work for about 15
minutes.

Then I opened FF, which immediately tried to connect to the update
server, and...it's still trying to connect, more than half an hour later.

Are others experiencing the same problem, or is this more likely an
issue on my end? Should I let FF keep on trying to connect to the update
server?

I had the same issues on an XP machine when trying to go from .5 to .6
It eventually resolved but I have no idea how or why.

Help.

I can't stop Firefox from attempting to connect to the update server.
Every time I open the program, it tries to connect. This has been going
on for two hours!

Is uninstall/reinstall the only way to stop FF from trying to update itself?

Phew.

Even after closing the program, FF continued to run in the background,
as revealed by Task Manager. I killed the process, then restarted my
computer (probably not necessary.)

When next I opened Firefox, it was no longer trying to connect to the
update server. I tried downloading the update to 3.5.7 again, and this
time it went off without a hitch.

I guess it was 'just one of those things.'
