When I visit several pages on a web site the corresponding turn from
blue to magenta. That's fine, but if I close FF and reload it later the
previous visited links remain magenta.
Is it possible to reset all the links status to "non visited" at the end
of a session without clearing the browsing history (doing so clears the
open tabs list and I would avoid that)?

You can't reset the link status without removing the link from history.

The Session Manager extension *might* save your open tabs even though
you clear history at shutdown, though. I say "might" because I don't
use it and I'm not clear on how it interacts with history. If you try
it, good luck. :) <http://sessionmanager.mozdev.org/>

There is an extension that may help (I don't use it):
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/link-visitor-3/

you can provided you don't mind if your browser can't remember your
browsing history. If you want this then try:

Tools >> Options >> Privacy

change to Never Remember History.

Click OK and you are done.

Good luck.

Thanks for the idea. Tab Mix Plus, which I use, does the job:
- in FF: clear the history (that clears the visited status on all links)
- in Tab Mix Plus: enable session manager, save on exit, restore on
start, startup with last session, preserve history and tab list.
Now when I restart FF all tabs are present and all the links appear as
no visited.

*"without clearing the browsing history"*

If you use TMP as explained in my previous post a kind of history is
preserved.
In fact the browsing history is cleared in FF (the pull-down list is
empty) but the closed tabs list is still there, and each tab has its "own
history": if you reload a tab from the list you can go back/forward as
you did before closing it. The groups of tabs are also preserved and you
can decide to not load them before selected.
