When using more then one Firefox profile, i'd like to be able to
see the profile in use by a quick a glance.
I'm surprised it's not easy to see by default, or am i missing
something obvious?

Inconvenient way. If i use different disk-caches for the profiles
'about:cache' will tell me.

Convenient way. The window-title would show the icon followed by
Firefox and then (within parenthesis or following a colon) the
profilename.

You can use the Titlebar Tweaks extension to do what you want.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12640

A less classy solution would be to create or rename a folder or link on the
bookmarks toolbar to the profile name.

MR Tech Toolkit also will provide this function.

Cache could be assigned outside of your profile -- not a sure thing.

To put the title into the toolbar with an extension, "Nightly Tester Tools"
but if you are in safe mode you won't see it. I use this extension at
least on my main profile. If it got copied to another profile it would
report the correct profile. I also install "Open Profile Folder" in my
main profile. Additional tips can be found in
Color Toolbar(s) to identify profile (DM*) | userstyles.org
http://userstyles.org/styles/9514

There are some people who act like Corporate HELP desk employees who
rather than giving real help treat their users as being dumb and do their
best to keep them ignorant so that they will call the HELP desk for help..

Bug 283685 - Firefox should display the current profile name somewhere

But if one point the different profiles to different
bookmark-collections, then it is a much better solution then my
current workaround and easy to implement.

'Titlebar Tweaks', 'MR Tech Toolkit', 'Nightly Tester Tools' &
also 'Stylish' - all the Firefox addons downloaded(*1) and will
be checked out to see which on will suit me best (probably the
colored toolbar alternative). .. Thanks for all the suggestions.

(*1) I don't do live (driveby-)installs of anything.

Understood, and in fact in my case they are. But i point the
caches to paths that include the profilename. Under
Windows/WinNT, e.g. "DriveLetter:\Caches\FirefoxProfile1Name\"

Hehe. It seems we both agree that someone that can should address
this bug-report.
