I was running Firefox 2.0.0.9 without any problems. The automatic update beagn to install Firefox 2.0.0.10 and then displayed an error message that it could not be installed. When I clicked on OK, the installing tried to run again with the same error message, this continued several times and I was unable to interupt the process.
I uninstalled Firefox 2.0.0.9 and then downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.10 the install began and an error message appeared saying that there was a problem opening the file for writing. I am now stuck without any Firefox and will have to use IE until someone can come up with a way to install my preferred browser.
I'm running Windows XP professional with service pack 2 and all security updates installed. The only other action I've taken since last opening the Firefox browser successfully was to upgrade to IE 7.0.
Thanks
Tony
Hi Tony,
Don't know why you have the problem, this is the best I can offer you

Two other things first off. Original posts should not have subjects with the reply ("Re:")
prefix. The prefix is added automatically by the newsreader when you make a
reply to a posting (just like in email). Posting should be in plain text not in HTML
(nor in Rich Text Format).
You will probably not want these coming directly to you inbox, so I pulled
these two links from your headers. The second will unsubscribe you, so you
would want to set up newsgroups first; otherwise, you will never see your replies.
List-Unsubscribe: <https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-firefox>,
<mailto:support-fir...@lists.mozilla.org?subject=unsubscribe>
To read your newsgroup postings with your email reader but with the postings
in newsgroups segregated from your (Outlook Express) email see
http://ilias.ca/blog/2006/01/instructions-for-new-newsgroup-server/
It is rather drastic, but try booting to Windows safe mode, and install
Firefox, then reboot to normal mode. It is possible that a firewall, or
AV program is preventing the install from accessing a file.

I've got the exact same problem.
But I made a discovery regarding this program: there is an active Firefox
process in the list of my processes in the task manager. It consumes appr.
3k of memory, and if you shut it down it reappers magically. This could be
the problem, why the update cannot complete, and I too have to use IE now...
I tried shutting everything down, updates, spybot, Nod, but nothing changed.
Mozilla won't even start in safe mode...
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Balazs

Tony Cox: you should check this page, if you to have an "unclosable" firefox
process, then probably this will be the problem...

On 01.12.2007 14:14, CET - what odd quirk of fate caused Balázs Dobó to

well! I sure hope that you have CHANGED all sensitive data - PIN, LogIn,
Password, Username, etc - since deleting the Trojan/Key logger??
And that you have learned a lesson - DO NOT use cheats when playing
games.......

As I have stated elsewhere - my version of FF works perfectly - I have
NO loss of bookmarks, extension etc., nor have I suffered trojan
attacks.... (and I've probably been online longer than you have been alive!)
maybe, if you actually took the time to look through the FF URLs given
to the OP as help-sources, you would *also* give the OP the same advice??
but then again - reading isn't your main subject, is it!
Up yours...
