Since FF introduced the “Private Window” feature, whenever you go
to open something in a “new” window, the previously closed window
reopens!
Is this a bug or by design?
If it *is* by design, is there an About:Config setting that can
be tweaked to eliminate unintended reopenings?

If I select "New Private Window" the current window doesn't close, but I
suspect you close it after you open the private window.

Selecting "New Window" from a "Private Window" will open a new window to
my home page. It does not open a "New Private Window".

That is what the "New Private Window" menu item is for.

If you are opening the previously closed window, maybe you should check
your settings, and make sure you don't have "Show my windows and tabs
from last time" selected for "When Firefox starts:".

Maybe you need to set it to "Show a blank page". It all depends on how
you want Firefox to open in normal mode.

Just to clarify, referencing “private window” was just to note
the timing of it starting.
I’m referring to ANY new window, particularly “regular” status
windows. P=-/

What is your setting for "When Firefox starts"?

"Show my home page", "Show a blank page", or "Show my windows and tabs
from last time".

“Show my windows and tabs from last time”.
I usually hibernate, but the same behavior happens after I’ve shut
down and rebooted.
Now, by opening new window, what I mean is, if I right click a link
and choose “Open Link in New Window”, view that page and any
subsequent ones in that window, close that window, browse other pages,
then right click another link and again choose “Open Link in New
Window”, it will reopen that previously closed window....It never did
that before——it always opened a fresh window.

I suggest you "Reset Firefox".

Well, looks like it might have been either a program bug or corruption
with my copy, as this effect disappeared when I updated to v21.0 last
weekend. P=|
