Firefox 2.0.0.4 Losing Cookies?

Since 2.0.0.4, many websites are acting as if Firefox is occasionally
discarding cookies. Login sites often (but not always) ask for new
user names and passwords whereas before they would remember them
forever. I'm seeing this on a number of unrelated sites (Gmail,
chase.com, news sites, &c).

Is anyone else seeing this?

Nope. I'm not running Norton on either of the systems that exhibit
this, and they're each running different anti-virus packages. Thanks.

I guess you can probably ignore my answer as Nir's seems to
have a better handle on your probable problem.

I didn't look up in bugzilla or in the mozillazine kb, but I would suspect
that you are clearing them out unknowingly when you clear your
cache. Tools, Options, Privacy, Settings (button)
make sure that only cache is checked for clearing. Personally
I use a batch (.bat) file to clear all cache and temporary files on
my system, which removes a lot more files than simply clearing
Firefox's cache -- but you have to be careful with what is included.

Make sure that those AV software don't have such schedule activated .

Also as David has suggested , goto Tools>Options>Privacy:
check 'Accept cookies from sites' option,
set 'Keep until' to 'they expire'
click on 'Exception' and delete unnecessary entries .

It's already set that way, thanks. There are no "Exception" entries.

This is stranger than I first assumed.

I'm not manually clearing my cache (and it's not set to automatically
clear on exit).

happens I'll do some comparisons and report back.

read only could have been set if you restored a file from a backup

I started seeing that this week. Are you possibly running Webroot's
SpySweeper? I noticed that the issue started shortly after an update
from Webroot.

It does not appear (to me) to be a cookie /blocking/ issue. It looks to
me as if cookies are being /truncated/. I saw this with one site that
merely asks you to identify yourself by a valid email address, and sets
that in a cookie. Sometimes (this does not happen every time) you will
see that a site no longer "remembers" you, and when this has happened, I
looked in my cookies file at that particular site's cookie, and the
email address had been truncated.

I'm not using that software, but I am beginning to suspect it's a
victim of "friendly fire" from some security software. It's happening
at home and at work, and each use different security packages.
