Sometimes when I try to scroll down a webpage using the arrow keys I
switch between the tabs instead. I haven't yet identified what I do
before to cause this behavior. How do I do it? Or it's not my fault?

Hi Eustace,
Switching Tabs should be Ctrl+TAB, (reverse is Ctrl+Shift+TAB)

similar to ALT+TAB (reverse ALT+SHIFT+TAB)
to switch between application in Windows. So I don't know how
you are doing that with arrow keys.

Page up and Down is not always reliable, you can usually give it a kick start
by using the scroll bar.. The fastest way to go down a page is with the SpaceBar
(but no reverse) also somewhat unreliable (try kick starting).

Scrolling up or down with the arrow keys is slow it is one line (1-2 lines) at a time
unless you hold down and go into accelerated mode (hard to read)..
You should be using Page Up or Page Down,

Why don't you set the mouse wheel to a page at a time. so you have another
option: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/mouse.txt

As for not actually knowing what you are doing try to find out.

I tend to think you might be mixing in BACK (Alt+Arrow Left)
and FORWAR (Alt+Arrow Right) which is not the same as switching tabs.

No, each venue has its own 'conventions' when it comes to
replying/posting/etc. Sometimes its difficult to adjust one's mindset to
another viewpoint when you observe a custom for a long period.

I had problems adjusting to bottom posting after secnews Mac groups were top
posting for such a long time, and then experienced even more problems when we
moved to the mozilla groups

That the person may or may not have the same name as one observed in a ms
group is not conclusive, nor is it really important.

I don't think it's fair to pile on for being an MSMVP. There are
plenty of top-posters not connected to MS or to the MVPs.

These are good points. The netscape groups' full-quoting policy made
me grind my teeth for a long time, but after a while I got used to it.
Kind of.

If nothing else, the MSMVP designation indicates a person has spent a
fair amount of time trying to help people, which is a Good Thing. I
don't think there's any reason to make people feel unwelcome here on
the basis of that association or of any other one.

Different people have different habits. When reading a message or a
webpage I normally prefer to press the down arrow at the end of a
paragraph to center the next paragraph.

Since I didn't get an answer to my question, I have to wait next time it
happens and see if I can understand what's going on.

Sorted. :-)

It works nicely - now you can do it deliberately if you want...

It depends where the window focus is.
If focus is on the location bar, the up/down arrow keys go through the
location bar drop-down list.
If focus is on the search bar, the up/down arrow keys go through the
search bar drop-down list.
If focus is on a tab, the up/down arrow keys go through each tab.
If focus is on the web-page, the up/down arrow keys scroll through the
web-page.

Click within the web-page viewing area, to change focus to the web-page.

Is there any way with Firefox to make it more obvious when you ARE
focused on the web-page itself? In Windows itself, I've set the Active
Window Border color to Green, so that when I'm focused on Firefox the
window border around Firefox is green, so it's easy to see which app I'm
focused on. Is there some similar way within Firefox itself to have a
border around the web-page area whose color changes when the web-page is
currently focused? Or some other visual cue which would make it easier
to see? Thanks.

Try the attached userChrome.css script.

Thank you. That puts a dotted box around whichever control is currently
focused (including the web-page). But is there a way to have the dotted
box ONLY appear when the web-page is focused (only around the web-page)?

I just realized: This works if you tab into the web page, but doesn't
work if you click anywhere in the web page (i.e. on plain text, not a
link). But I almost never tab into the page, I click into it. Can it
be made to work when you click on it? Thanks.

I don't know.
