Hi all!

I have Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 and Lightning .7 running on 2 computers:
One Windows XP and one Ubuntu 7.10 - and it works fine. Now I
installed it on another Ubuntu 7.10 system and the GUI is broken:
a) there is no standard calendar included
b) there is no data shown on the right column (No date, no todo
list...)
c) when I switch to calendar view there are only a few blue lines

I read a few forum posts about a similar issue in RC1 but there was no
solution.

Are you using a theme in Thunderbird? Try switching to the
default.

I like work; it fascinates me; I can sit and look at it for
hours.

Sounds like you're having the same problem as I have. And yes, I am
using the default theme.
My systems:
Ubuntu 7.10, Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 -> works fine
Windows XP, Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 -> Layout broken

Moreover, the Thunderbird profile is SHARED between both thunderbird
installations. Therefore the problem must be related to differences
between TB/WinXP and TB/Ubuntu, I guess.

Yes, I am. Thanks for the link, I already tried to follow the
instructions, but it's kind of weird. Every time you try to download
"https://addons.mozilla.org/.../lightning-0.7-tb-win.xpi" you get
redirected to
"https://addons.mozilla.org/.../lightning-0.7-tb-linux.xpi". That makes
me crazy. Even spoofing (overwriting) my Useragent HTTP-Header with
Tamperdata AND clearing the cache mutliple times doesn't stop the
redirection given as HTTP-Response-Parameter:
Location=http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/2313/lightning-0.7-tb-linux.xpi

Using an external download manager like KGet doesnt help either...
addons.mozilla.com seems to just save the visitors' data =O *ARGH*

I am going to give it a try when I am working with Windows again.

I finally got it working - display and layout works. While using Windows

Mozilla Addons page seems to save the user's data. That must be the
reason, why I couldnt spoof my useragent. =/ (I really tried everything,
except changing my IP address.)

Anyway, the final .xpi file for both windows and linux systems can be
received from
http://files.robertnitsch.de/lightning-0.7-tb-linux-and-win.xpi when
applicable.
Of course, there's no warranty etc.

I have had the same problem with Lightning and tried the link you gave
to the unified .xpi file, but unfortunately I got the same results.
The Calendar GUI is totally hosed. Did I miss something?

I did it this way:
1. Start TB and uninstall the non-unified Lightning Extension.
2. Restart TB.
3. Install the unified .xpi file.
4. Restart TB and be happy.

Works for me. If that doesnt work for you, we have to wait for further
responses.

I have this exact same problem with Ubuntu 7.10, TB 2.0.0.6 and
Lightning .7. I am not sharing between the two and I am sure I am
downloading the linux specific version of Lightning (the file has the
word linux in it). I don't know what else to do to get this working.
Please advise.
Thanks

Ubuntu 7.10 provides it's own Lightning package that works with the
Thunderbird build from the Ubuntu repositories. Just search for
lightning-extension package.

Also check that your system fulfills the system requirements
<http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/system-requirements.html>
e.g. libstdc++5 is installed.

I had this problem twice but a little bit different.
1. when I tried to use my profile in Windows (currently using mostly
under Linux) the layout was damaged und the calendar didn't work.
Solved this with the guide described under the link above with a
univied lightning version. I'm only wondering why such a version is
not default provided...

2. After upgrading my system und therefor reinstalling Ubuntu I tried
to get the Thunderbird profile of my wife to work. It was used under
Ubuntu with Thunderbird 2.0.x and Lightning 0.7 before and again, so I
didn't expexted any problems. But after new installation the layout
was broken and the calendar didn't work and until now I didn't get it
to work. Either with the univied xpi, nor with the windows nor the
linux version :( Only with Lightning 0.5 it works but with Lightning
0.7 no more... :(

The second problem is solved... Ubuntu 7.10 doesn't install libstdc++5
by default but it's easy to install with synaptic...

i must report same problem. i'm running ubuntu 7.10, thunderbird
2.0.0.6 and lightning .7 and my calendar just shows a bunch of colored
bars. the calendar will only work with lightning .5 which i installed
from ubuntu repositories.

anyone find a fix for this yet???
