Hi Francisco,
I'll give you my thoughts on this having, approved one such application,
and asked the other to reapply later. These are my personal opinions, so
also welcome feedback.
1) Approved
I approved a Mozilla employee who had experience contributing to the
Mozilla project prior to becoming an employee, and still contributed time
(non-paid) to the project. She had a clear vision of what she wanted to do
as a Rep, how she would go about it (there were no other reps in her area)
and the metrics of success. Clearly her vision for Rep work went above and
beyond what she can accomplish in her employee role(which is not in public
engagement)
2) Not Approved
A Mozilla employee who had never contributed to the project . And when I
say contributed I mean - volunteered. He was passionate about the project
but had no open source contributions in other communities either. That's
not to say employees are not awesome in the passion they provide to
Mozilla, just that there was no experience in the community. He did not
have a clear vision of what he wanted to do as a Rep. He has since
connected with another Rep and is gaining experience (so next application
will likely be successful)
I really think, like non-employees, this is a person-by-person evaluation.
Best of luck, I know I labored over employee decisions as well - tricky
ones :)
