Hi Mozillians,

I have just raised an enhancement bug about linking Github and
Mozillians via the github API.

In short we would like to display a list of the projects a user
(contributor) has worked on on their Mozillians page.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720969

We are discussing better ideas to recognise our contributors and this is
one idea that came up.

Interested to hear your thoughts and views.

Hi Zac,

The bug's been updated and its a use case for the Web Services we're planning to build (you beat me to sending an e-mail out to the Mozillians mailing list about it!) where we can grab information from GitHub, Bugzilla, HG, Verbatim (our L10n tools), Case Conductor, SUMO, MDN and many other contributor activity and contribution infor from mozilla.org properties. I love the idea and its a primary objective for the phonebook to go towards the route of making it a place to show off a Mozilla Resume.

What about using open badges? The Mozillian profile would be a great
place to show off the badges.

We're on it with the People team :). There's nothing to show as of yet (I mean we're simply trying to build these platforms up just to get contributors onramped!), but it's known and part of the plan to incorporate the open badges framework into a greater learning and development program for contributors across all sub-communities.

Thanks,

Thanks Aakash, it sounds like you guys have lots of great ideas.

I'll leave it in your capable hands :)

Is there a Mozillians roadmap that points to the planned features and
discussions about other potential features?

Hi Stormy,

Indeed there is! There's a wiki Roadmap here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mozillians#Roadmap (we're currently in Phase 2)

If you'd like to look at specific releases, those are linked below the Roadmap section on that same wiki. For those that don't want to read through the wiki, I'm in the middle of writing a vision statement for 2012 with a roadmap graph that should be out in a week or two.

Also, for those that want to read about what's going on specifically for the Phonebook in 2012, please take a look at the following blogpost:

http://aakash.doesthings.com/2012/01/09/what-to-expect-from-mozillians-org-in-2012/

Hi Aakash,

Could you possibly respond to the question I've posed in the comments on
that blog post?

"Mozilla continues to be in dire need of a space somewhere between
“public” and “employees of MoCo”. There are loads of discussions which
happen among employees because it’s the only non-public group available,
and this is a community-corrosive effect.

In order to have such a forum, we need to know who to admit – and the
phonebook is the obvious basis for this. All vouched users” is too wide
a net for such a forum. Therefore, the phonebook needs to support
“blessed tags” (or whatever we call it) – a way of particular special
tags being only conferred by a subset of users. Then we can give a tag
to the users who should have access to the forum.

Is that feature on the roadmap? If so, when might we see it?"
