Hi All,

An attendee to a Toronto event told me about the NASA Space Apps Challenge
coming up in April. It's a weekend hack taking place in 75 cities
worldwide, including many that have a good Mozilla presence. (You can also
participate remotely http://spaceappschallenge.org/location/virtual/ )

I thought it would be great for people to go, and wear some custom swag. I
made this etherpad for people to coordinate -
https://mozillianstoronto.etherpad.mozilla.org/NASAspaceapps

For more info http://spaceappschallenge.org/ (linked in the pad), but here
are some snippets:

* Participants in the Space Apps Challenge have over 50 unique challenges
available for hacking, each individually curated by NASA and our partners.
Challenges in 2013 include Detecting Near Earth Objects, Revisiting how
NASA offers data to the public, and more effectively curating how to tell
the story of space to the world.

* The International Space Apps Challenge is an unprecedented international
collaboration between government agencies, organizations, academic
institutions, and citizens from around the world. In 2012, over 2,000
citizens participated and created 101 unique, OPEN SOURCE solutions to
challenges both in space and here on earth. (emphasis on open source is
mine)

* The Space Apps Challenge is for anyone interested in applying their
unique skills and experience to helping humankind explore the final
frontier - this is your chance to become a rocket scientist.

BTW, did you know NASA used bugzilla? -

Sounds like a lot of fun to me and a great partner to support!

We are hosting the Athens event, at the local Hackerspace :)

I would strongly advice all Reps that happen to live near a Apps
Challenge venue to attend and participate.
Many of the challenges [1] are actually web apps, so a Mozillian should
be around ;)
