News I received from IBM employees tell me that IBM is to make Firefox
the default inhouse browser by the 2nd quarter of 2010 so as to enhance
web productivity of their employees.

It's great news that a big multinational is making the switch. IBM's
case can also start a snowball effect as IBM serves the IT needs of
many large companies.

Pinged one of my contacts at IBM about this to see if it's actually
true. These things are often more subtle than "everyone, everywhere."

Note the crucial word "default", they are switching from IE being the
default to Firefox being the default. Apparently IBM employees were
already free to use Firefox if they wanted and many did so, after the
change employees will still be free to use IE (at least that is my
understanding). That said it can't hurt to get this confirmed by
another source, so please let us know.

As an IBM employee for 15 years and an enthusiastic supporter of open
source, I am proud to confirm this. We are also aggressively working
to develop, distribute and support several linux open client distros
for internal IBMers including Red Hat, Fedora, Ubuntu/Debian and SUSE.
It's not your grandpa's IBM anymore!
Cheers!

How amazing is this?!
I'll await your answer. :)
