Hi all,

Looking forward to tomorrow's community marketing call (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/5377)

I'll be discussing this on the call tomorrow, but I wanted to send out a note to let you know about a 5 question security quiz that we will be launching towards the end of this week. The idea came from a brainstorm with our awesome security team on how we could reinforce security leadership, in addition to a new way to teach users general tips and how to stay safe online.

With almost 600,000 members in our group (http://www.facebook.com/firefox), we thought it would be a great idea to use Facebook. This is very much a "beta" run of using a Facebook application to spread information so it is not localized and will only be available in English.

One of the coolest things about the quiz is that it does not collect and personal data, which Facebook applications are renowned for. We only capture information on how you perform on the quiz and even go as far as hashing out the Facebook user ID. Quite cool!

When we launch I'll send out a URL and would love if you could tweet, blog, reshare and get people excited to participate in the quiz!

Thanks and looking forward to talking to everyone tomorrow!

- Sarah

Another question: is the quiz localizable? Since we have lots of people use
Facebook and don't speak English, I think it would be good to a) have l10n
teams download the source and build a localized quiz application themself,
or b) make the quiz in question localizable.

Sounds like a good idea, so communities will handle of the localization.

Hi everyone,

I looked into some of these questions. The source code is freely available for download and it would be possible to localize, however there are Facebook components that would take some extra work trying to figure out how to localize.

Right now this is very much a beta test - our original goal was to do the quiz in English and to get feedback and to see if Facebook is the right platform for us in the future. Since we are still very early in the gathering feedback and learning stage of this quiz, we're going to keep it in English for right now, but in the future a new quiz would be available to be localized.

Thanks!

sarah
