Hi,

during the last opensource meetup i did a small tour through our event
location (a center of the city of Munich where young people can learn
how to use the internet and also use the internet when they don't have
can afford a internet connection at home). And they had a kind of poster
wall there for all kind of projects.

I wonder if it would be good idea if we would have some Get-Involved
Posters for Mozilla/Firefox with where we Information in which areas you
can get involved (like QA, Dev, Marketing, etc) and how to get-involved.

The value would be that we could use this poster in schools, locations
like this one in Munich (and also of course on Conferences/fair where we
have a booth). In Europe (and i think also in other regions) don't have
this massive internet access coverage everywhere so that a
"offline"-poster might be a good way to find new Community Members who
are not surfing everyday on mozilla websites :) . Another advantage
would be that this poster could be translatable for other localizations
and open for download for printing at home.

David Boswell has a great mock-up here
http://davidwboswell.wordpress.com/2009/10/06/a-recruiting-engine-for-the-mozilla-community/
which i think we could use parts for the poster. Also a get-involved
sheet that was created by Sarah and the Marketing-Team for the
Philippine Blog Awards and WordCamp Philippines would be very great as
poster.

What do people think about this ?

Hi Carsten,

Good idea. One thing which might make this a little complicated is that
Mozilla
uses a proprietary font, which most people don't have available.
I hope MoCo can come up with a solution for this.
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/fontfont/ff-meta/

This also applies to localizable stuff on spreadfirefox and so on.

Hi guys: I think we might have one of these laying around -- I know that we have small handouts for sure. I can check with Sarah Doherty and Jay. Jay had done one about 1.5 years ago.

Thanks!

We have the fliers that WilliamR created for FISL, highlighting
different ways to get involved. Right now we have one for QMO, one for
Sfx, one for add-ons, and one for campus reps. The idea is that people
could pick the one they're most interested in (and that event
organizers could print the ones most relevant to the audience at the
event).

Sarah also has a more general one.

We can post all of them on Sfx. One remaining question is what format
would work for people to localize the posters easily (some of them are
In Design or photoshop files - would that work?).

Count me in if you need any help
Not sure if this would help I made this vector
http://www.graphicsguru.com/vector.png last week for david I was
thinking of a t-shirt for mozilla community store it got put on the
back burner for now more important mozilla.org projects to get done
first

anyways what we do most of the time is make the poster and post the
source files on bugzilla
then if someone will need it changed one of
us can volunteer to help them out

or if they want to buy the fonts we can post the link as we do on
mozilla.com logos

Alix,

I have used some psd files from
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/affiliates/create_buttons
(btw, when are the ones for 3.5/6/7 being uploaded?)
which I was able to edit nicely in GIMP, they even had the layers, which
makes editing easier.
Still, if you want to add text you'll need the font mentioned earlier.

Another option for the larger projects like mozilla Serviceweek is to
create a localizationbug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493006

Kind regards,

I love this idea! Two notes:

1. Any designs created for this should also be posted on http://creative.mozilla.org/
. Just a reminder.
2. As for the proprietary font issue, the text on the poster doesn't
have to be Meta. We use that font for our wordmarks, but any marketing-
related text is more flexible (as long as it looks nice!).

I think posting all available offline material in one place would be very useful. For instance, I posted the Mozilla brochure on www.mozilla.org but it would fit better in a list of other posters and print material that people can download, localize and use.

http://www.mozilla.org/about/brochure/

As for a Get Involved poster, I think it's a great idea and am happy to help however I can. People are welcome to reuse or add to the content related to the current Get Involved redesign on www.mozilla.org.
