I know this has already been discussed, but is there really no way to
block spam from Mozilla servers? 90% of emails in this newsgroup is spam.

From what we can tell, the spam is coming through the Google Groups gateway :(

mike

A solution is being worked on. See

I believe a more accurate statement is:

6 weeks ago, a solution was proposed, and someone (a full time Mozilla
employee, IINM) volunteered to work on it.

AFAIK, to date, evidence of work done on it remains to be seen.

Work-around:

All these Mozilla newsgroups are also available as subscription mailing
lists through lists.mozilla.org. Unlike the newsgroups, the mailing lists
are spam filtered and are relatively (but not absolutely) spam free.

:-)

Unfortunately, no-one had time to lead the effort in his absence.

Here is the plan:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Discussion_Forums/Proposal

Now I am back from honeymoon, I hope to work with Dave Miller to get it
executed.

http://www.gervandruthwedding.net/ . But perhaps further congratulations
could be sent by private mail? It's somewhat off-topic for this group.

Thanks :-)

Gerv, is there a bug opened to follow the action on this ?

How can people verify that there's progress on this issue, and rise an
alarm if it stops again ?

Gerv-
As you know, I'm having troll trouble on a list. I *think* that this
proposal, as a side-effect, would allow me to deal with that problem by
blacklisting someone, but could you confirm that technically, you think
this would be feasible once this proposal is in place?

That is correct. It would be technically feasible.

FWIW, I support this plan. I also like the idea of making it easy for
groups to only allow approved posters, if that's what the moderator
wants. I'm considering doing this for dev-apps-firefox as a way of
cutting down on the number of support requests that newsgroup gets.

cheers,
mike

Having set up tb-planning that way and watched it run for a while, I can
confirm that it is helpful in keeping the list discussion on-topic.

This is indeed a useful feature of the new plan :-)
