Summary: Auto-Detect Char.Encoding possible only with a trick

Comments:
Mighty Ancestors of the Holy Mozilla Tribe,

i was trying to set up my thunderbird to auto detect character encodings
and it just didn't want to work. after a major search i was on the edge
of despair. then i, accidentaly, found it out. it's a little trick:
- s.o. has to uncheck the "tools->option->display->font-> apply the
default character encoding to all incoming messages" checkbox.
- then select "view->character encoding->auto-detect->universal"
- and RESTART thunderbird(!), else it doesn't do.

well, let's say not a "trick", but at least 2 steps more, which nobody
would normaly guess. it makes sence, of course, but it is not
user-friendly enough. in my opinian thunderbird himself has to warn the
user that the "apply default character encoding" checkbox is set and
selecting auto-detect would disable it, instead of just allowing both at
the same time and letting the user wonder why the buck auto-detect is
not working.

p.s.: according to many forums an ugly side effect of this whole story
is that people think thunderbird's auto-detect function is just unable
to detect character encodings properly. think about your reputation ;)

i thank you in advance for fixing this and i'll dare to speak in the
name of all not-only-standart-encoding-mail-receivers.
