I have some requests for features to be ported from Google Chrome
because I believe that open source software is about bringing all the
best of everything out there together.
I'm currently using primarily Firefox 3.5 and Google Chrome (can't stand
IE in any form) as my web browsers depending on what I need to do.
Before 3.5 I used firefox as my private browser (clear personal data on
exit) but because of the settings I would have to change to use it as a
normal explorer, I use Chrome as my primary browser because of faster
Javascript and load time. With 3.5 I am seeing much improvement in both
of these things, plus the private browsing option is making it more and
more appealing as a main browser. I have also seen the new feature of
being able to split tabs into their own windows, which is a feature I
liked a lot from Chrome.
There are still two really nice features that Chrome has that I would
like to see in Firefox.
The first is the highlighting of the scrollbar on the far right of a tab
to show the location of all search results throughout the page. This is
very convenient as a landmark and to give an idea of where search
results are in relation to each other on a page. This would be good to
see in both search-when-you-type and normal Ctrl+F searches.
The second is something which dazzled me about Chrome. It's a feature
that I still think many people have not even noticed it is there because
of its subtlety, but Chrome renders Textareas with a small clickable
region in the lower right hand corner of the box that allows it to be
resized within the web page. This is extremely useful for feedback forms
for this where some users may prefer to see more than the default number
of lines in the textfield for composing a long reply much like this one.
