Are We Abusing Settings API?

This is inspired by Justin's thought and I think it's worth addressing and discussing. We believe we're abusing the Settings API for some settings due to the following reasons:
1. Settings API is a privileged API, which means it cannot be exposed to the normal web content. For example, the |time.timezone| setting could be one of the overuse-case because the non-privileged apps might also want to set the time zone and receive the time zone changed event whenever the system time zone or DST info is updated.... more »

Following up on my last message, I'd like to propose that we add a "startsWith" filter operation to ContactsAPI.

I think the most important thing here is that we develop this API
together with whoever is going to be writing the UI code that will be
using this API. I.e. as long as this API works well for the people
writing the application code, I'm fine with it.

querying summary information

As part of my work looking at performance issues in the contacts app I've been exploring the possibility of querying summary data from ContactsAPI. The idea here is that there are many common use cases for needing only a few fields for each contact and retrieving all fields can impose a significant overhead penalty on mobile devices.... more »
