Having been a couple months short of a year on any word on a standalone
application, I figured I would ask about the status.

NVU is full of bugs and is not vary stable. Komposer has many of the
same bugs with some fixes but seems to be a dead project. Composer in
SeaMonkey is much better than those two but is not standalone and has
many problems with formating things that NVU and SeaMonkey have. I am
hoping that this so called Mozilla Composer will be much better and have
an active group working on it.

What is the status of this new standalone version of Mozilla Composer?

Thanks,

You'll probably love to use BBComposer that produce valid XHTML1.0. But
it's a Firefox extension (and will stay like that).

If someone want to create a standalone version, there's no problem ! The
1.0 version will soon be available with :
Undo/redo functions activated.
Multiple BBComposer opened.
Delete, Type, tab etc... functions rewritten to produce more valid xhtml
(what a mess !).
Paste function that filter non XHTML or invalid code.

English documentation is frequently asked, feel free to help me to
create it.

Hope you'll find it pretty, don't hesitate to re-use my work (GNU/GPL).

Nicolas Froidure.

If you have such a good view of what doesn't work properly, fill bugs
for Seamonkey/composer ! Even if nobody works on them right now, it will
be very useful.

Your remarks made me check, and there's indeed a bit of activity on
mozilla/editor, but I think only peterv (maybe Olli Pettay) is more than
anecdotally working on it. The other two are certainly dead.

There's no checkin on Composer since February, it seems stalled.
Given that MoFo/MoCo really focuses on Firefox, I fear they finally
decided not to do much for m/c.

I can understand Daniel has other priorities, and needs to bring home
the bread, but it's a bit disappointing it stops without warning if it's
going to resume, or if there's a change of plan.

If you're using Linux, you can get version 0.7.10 which is from august
9th 2007:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170132

Version 0.80 should be released very soon, and will also be released in
a Windows version.

What are the changes in 0.80 going to be?

In 0.7.10 there's some changes in the css editor, and probably some
other changes in the code to correct errors. In 0.8 there will be
changes in the site manager, where many of the worst problems in Nvu is.
Also 0.8 should be compatible with FireFTP.

Any chance we'll see a Mac version?

Some of us want that too, but have problems with libtool compatibility.
