Hi all,

Beside all the talks about enhancements for our QAC extension I have
another idea of a feature which could help us a lot in our daily work.

Lately I had to do a lot of bug verifications and regression test work.
Means I was forced to download a couple of binaries from our ftp server
for mac and windows. It's still an time consuming process to navigate to
the appropriate folder and download a build for a special platform. If
there would be a way to enhance this process I would really looking
forward to it. Even if it could be part of the QAC extension. So let me
summarize my idea...

* Downloader

We would need an UI which gives us the opportunity to download any build
we want. Means any release version or nightly build, for Windows, Linux,
or OS X and what's important the version and from a special date or date
range. Even a special locale would be helpful too. Having drop down
boxes to specify all those data and clicking the button "Download"
should do the trick for the user. The file will be downloaded to a
specified local folder. The local hierarchy should probably look similar
like the structure on ftp.mozilla.org.

* Application Starter

Testing a special build should also be a part of the enhancement
request. Users should be able to select a build (probably with the same
drop down boxes like mentioned above). If the build isn't available
locally the extension should ask to download it from the server. If it
is locally available, it has to be automatically unzipped (un-dmg'ed or
whatever) into a temporary folder. Further we need a way to specify the
profile, Firefox should be started with. Now a click on Start should be
enough.

* Synchronization

If the user specifies a new profile or will run an existing profile for
which the QAC extension is not available, we should try to make it
available too. That should be an easy step by only copying the extension
folder to the new profile or just creating a symlink (which should also
work on Windows). Now users can work as usual. The question which
remains for now, how do we transfer all the needed settings?

What do others think about this feature request? It would be nice to see
a discussion here first before filing a new bug on Bugzilla.

Best,
Henrik

Sadly, it doesn't work anymore. I'll get in contact with Ted to see if
it can help. Thanks for the link.

So has anyone else interest in such a feature for the QAC extension?
