Why would site claim "10 minute timeout" after only 30-45 Seconds?

One secure site that I go to begins warning that it is about to log me
off for being idle for '10 minutes' even though I've only been on the
site for less than a minute. Clicking [OK] resets the timer for another
30-45 seconds, but then the popup is there again.

This does not happen on my TPad that has SM 1.1.18; only on the desktop
system that has SM 2.3.

Any idea what might cause this? And, hopefully, what might be done to
stop the problem?

Thanks! I've added the above. No chance to test yet. Bug ref was for
BofA site. I've seen it at both SunTrust and AmExp.

I know it's been a while, but so far, the HIRES_TIMER approach seems to
have worked.

The gremlins are back again and even with:

the sites above are back to premature timeouts. Sometimes, even get
timeouts with transaction submissions less than five minutes old.

FWIW: SeaMonkey is reporting itself as:

Yes, I know its a bit old, but the latest update is on the list for as
soon as I find my 'Round Tuit.'

Any new ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The problem still exists on the latest SM:

As noted below, the setting suggested is in place. There must be some
other problem. Or, possibly the 'fix' from before - on an earlier SM -
is now the problem.

Just for reference: This does not occur on just one site. It is an
issue on multiple banks and an insurance company. It is really
frustrating to continue to be kicked off after a few minutes and lose
all the work to that point.

Any ideas, please?

Does it happen on a freshly booted system? Are you doing anything in a
DOS (or Winos2) session?

Also, do you have Doodle's Screen Saver installed? If not, try
installing that.

likely, the answer to 'freshly booted' is, "No." I've just never paid
much attention.

always a
Win session with Quicken 97 running. But that is nothing new. About
the only things done on this system are related to finance, bill paying,
etc. Again, this has been true for many years.

Re: Doodle's Screen Saver
Yes, it is installed. But, again, it has been installed for a long time.
The only thing that is slightly different is that I do have that
system set up to 'Lock Up' after a
period of no activity. Seems like that interval is 30 minutes, but I'd
have to check to be certain - assuming that means something.

As a test you could test on a freshly booted system before opening any
DOS or WinOS2 sessions. Here I have some DOS games that cause SM to
speed up. Newsgroups time out and the twirling circle on a loading tab
goes very fast. Playing videos also seems to do something strange to the
timing here as well.
