No one talks about Fennec for Symbian...
What's happening?

MAEMO got BETA4, what's about symbian?

I believe the next platform is Windows Mobile and I have heard about
Android but nothing about Symbian since the last thread on past
December.
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.platforms.mobile/browse_frm/thread/48fd63052d18bf95/cbbd57002c9a582a?lnk=gst&q=symbian#cbbd57002c9a582a

There has also not been much activity since April on the repository
http://hg.mozilla.org/incubator/symbian/

No changes on the wiki page since May:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Symbian

Nothing on Google since December last year

Others more involved in the mobile project could give you a better
answer than me.

There's no effort being put into the Symbian port at this time. We had
not the code base to a point where we could make real progress on it,
and we needed to focus on Maemo and Windows Mobile to get them ready for
release. Also, Symbian is going through a lot of flux right now, and
most of the Symbian phones on the market now aren't powerful enough to
run Fennec well (CPU speed and available RAM are too low).

Probably not what you want to hear, but it's what's happening.

Now that Nokia has released the Qt 4.6beta libraries which include a
port for s60 and Qt Creator with capabilities for software based s60
emulation, can we expect to see any development on this front in the
near future?

For more details on Qt: qt.nokia.com

For more details on Qt 4.6beta: http://qt.nokia.com/developer/qt-4.6-preview

Brief Description:
Qt (originally created by Trolltech now acq. by Nokia) is a
multiplatform C++ GUI toolkit. It is available for free under GNU/
LGPL. Other licensing options also available.

Hi, Proteus.

N810 uses OMAP2420 chip and some Nokia N-series use same processor, too.
So about processor, it is no problem. But, since RAM is 128MB max, it
is critical to port XULRunner/Fennec.

Also, Current Qt code for Mozilla depends on X11 and Qt port code is
unstable and Qt for S60 isn't stable, yet.

Although I have patches for S60 port with Qt, about status, please track
meta bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432606).

Thanks Makato.

Qt 4.6 is still in beta, with release intended for second quarter of
2010.

Hopefully the S60 port will be stable by then.

Will post any major developments on this front here.

P.S.: I agree with you about the RAM size. I have a Nokia N85 and an
N95 and neither of them seems to have enough RAM space for more than
4-5 simultaneous applications. Its annoying because it seems to be a
trivial matter to increase the standard RAM sizes offered to 256 - 512
MB which, IMHO, would be just as beneficial as faster CPUs to
developing and deploying powerful mobile applications.

Do not forget that costs also matters :-)
