I see a slight difference in justification, in that 40% of our desktop
users (Windows XP) don't get an h.264 codec from their system, so
enabling system codecs on desktop won't help nearly as much of our
userbase, and will fragment the desktop version of gecko, and make it
harder for web developers to test their sites.

I can see how you would feel that way, but I don't think that we're
trying to do this via the back door (otherwise Andreas wouldn't have
posted in a public forum ;). Regardless, I agree that we should make it
our official plan on all platforms (or not), if only to keep our
position consistent.
