Hey all,
As discussed in today's Firefox 3 meeting, there's a very early draft
of the Firefox 3.1 plan available at the Firefox 3.1 Planning Center:
Planning Center: http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3.1
Very Early Draft: http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3.1/Features
Comments welcome here. The expectation is that work on Firefox 3.1
should be feature complete in 6 weeks, so please scope your comments
and suggestions to that timeline.
The thing I miss most in Firefox 3 is bookmarks tabs *auto complete*.
Any chance that the function embedded in mccoy.dll could be part of
Firefox 3.1? Seems like this would allow web browser based digital
signature work, but my selfish reason is to enable mccoy-like function
directly in Firefox.
Is there any chance of Bug 288040 (convert signons2.txt to mozstorage)
getting fixed in 3.1?

I think that's possible. Can you update the patch to the current trunk
and address any review comments that might be pending? Then we can get
the ball rolling again.

What is about SVG/SMIL?
I'm working on SVG/SMIL, and it's targeted to make Firefox 3.1.
Tracking bug is:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216462
I think it's not on that "Features" list because SVG/SMIL is a platform
(Gecko) feature, and AFAICT the rest of the items on the list are
front-end (Firefox) features.
However, SMIL *is* listed on
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Platform/Post1.9Planning
though, which is linked off of

I'm interested in seeing basic Metalink support in Firefox 3.1. It was
accepted as a Google Summer of Code project, but the student switched
to another project. :(
Metalinks are XML files that contain information about downloads, such
as mirrors, checksums, signatures, and other metadata, and are used by
open source projects like openSUSE, OpenOffice.org, Ubuntu and others.
DownThemAll!, a Firefox Addon, is the easiest way to try out
metalinks. 20 other download applications support them, mostly
download managers, FTP & P2P clients, and other browsers.

I dare to suggest one API feature, hopefully utilized in FF addons as
well as upcoming Fennec:
Customizable Mouse gestures
Shouldn't take long to implement as there's an addon up at AMO
providing this functionality.
May I suggest a feature that allows you to keep your installed
extensions in sync across multiple installations? This would help
heaps. I have 3 computers - 1 work PC, 1 work laptop and 1 home PC,
each of which have at least 2 operating systems installed on them. It
would simply rule to be able to have all these Firefox installations
just be in sync. I have the Foxmarks bookmarks sync add-on installed
and am convinced after using it for several months that syncing is a
good thing. Could we please take this concept further?
Ways I can think of doing that:
1) Since there are so many bookmark sync add-ons, use a special
bookmark. Then we get add-on syncing for free.
2) Make it a feature of the add-ons site. If you have a login there,
click a button and Firefox installs all your favorite add-ons.
3) Use a file that is created using an export feature. Import installs
the add-ons from the URLs in the file.
4) Zip all installed add-ons and their settings to one file. That
allows you to setup Firefox with all your preferences even if you're
offline.

Carl

I have one last suggestion that just occurred to me after I installed
Firefox 3 and Minefield on 6 different locations...
Would it be possible to have an option to disable the add-on updated/
installed window from popping up after Firefox starts up? I have about
30 add-ons installed and it pops up often enough to be noticeable.
Maybe an additional check box in Options > Advanced > Update >
Automatically Download and Install the Update that says "Inform me
when add-ons have been updated or installed" or equivalent?
Cheers,
Carl
Hmm? What do you mean, exactly? Transparent content iframes in content and
transparent chrome iframes in chrome work, last I checked...

Any example to show it works?
I found this bug:

which blocks:

Um...
data:text/html,Text<iframe style="position:absolute;top:0;left:0"></iframe>
looks just fine to me. Works in both Gecko 1.8 and Gecko 1.9.

The latter is about content iframes in chrome.

I'm new to Mozilla Dev, but I'd really like to see Bug #208287
squished. Working behind a proxy all day and having my browser hang at
least a few times per week is very irritating.

I hope they will also include Fullscreen on Mac
I love the new bookmarks management, but search is missing something
that is essential for me: I does not show what folder(s) the search
results were in (their "location" if you will). I know that folders
become less important with tags, but it is still disorienting (for me)
not to know where a bookmark comes from. Maybe one could highlight a
bookmarks folder in some way when it is selected. This kind of
highlight obviously has to be orthogonal to normal highlighting.
Also, the boomark browsing history does not go back to the search
results once one leaves them.
Example: Use the current page to open two tabs "behind" it. Then one
can use command-w to close the current page, but the same shortcut
fails to close the next tab. Quite often I find myself typing a
shortcut which does not work. Setting the focus to the page (e.g. via
the tab key) fixes this, but this really hampers usability.
