Notes from www.mozilla.org planning meeting on 5/7

Present: david, sam, reed, fantasai, jay, mark, kairo

- Getting New People Involved

We've been receiving a number of responses from our VolunterMatch
postings and have started talking to people about getting them started
on different projects. We reviewed the existing project ideas and
getting started docs on the wiki and discussed adding more ideas if
anyone needs help on any tasks. Mark, someone who had responded to us
recently, joined us on the call.

- Localization

Pascal and the l10n web team have expressed interest in helping us
localize key pages on the site. The Firefox 3.5 release is going to
be taking up all of their time for now, but they are open to talking
to us more at the end of the summer.

This gives us some time to sort out our localization system and
convert our repository to SVN. We discussed the differences between
our planned l10n system and the one used on the .com sites, but didn't
feel that it would be a big problem (the difference is in how
permissions are handled for localizers). If this turns out to be a
problem, we can always change the system later.

- Content

The automatic redirect bug (bug 453475) is still blocking ongoing
archiving work. This is a great bug for someone to jump in and help
with, since there is a script that's been written that just needs to
be configured to run. Reed mentioned it may be easier to write this
in PHP once the new site is in place.

Sheppy was not present at the meeting so we didn't discuss much about
migrating content other than to mention these are good bugs for people
interested in helping out with content issues. Updating and adding
content is also a good area for people to get involved and we reviewed
the current content priorities (Causes, Support, Developer, History
and Manifesto).

- Analyzing Stats

This is currently unowned and is an area that is wide open for people
to get involved.

- Deploying New Design

We reviewed the latest version of the templates posted by Happy Cog.
Although there are things we want to change on our end, there's
nothing left that we'd like the designers to do. This serves as the
official end of this phase of the redesign project. A possible second
phase was discussed briefly.

We then discussed the steps involved with deploying the new design to
the site and talked about our ability to do this by May 25. The open
issues for deployment are:

* Prepare templates for site (tweak HTML and CSS and modify templates
for our system)
* Switch from build system to PHP includes
* Transition from CVS to SVN
* Replace Doctor (this doesn't need to happen on the date of
deployment but should happen soon after)

We are going to meet on the two followings Thursdays at the same time
to follow the progress of the deployment. At next week's meetings
we'll determine if the target date of the 25th is realistic based on
the amount of progress we've made over the week.
