Notes from www.mozilla.org planning meeting on 7/2

Present: sheppy, david, gordon, reed

- Deploying New Design

There hasn't been much progress since the last meeting, largely due to
people being busy with Firefox 3.5 release work. Since the end of
June had been our target launch date, we'll need to determine a new
launch date.

David suggested that splitting off the design deployment from the back-
end transitions could help us get the design live sooner and give us
time to sort out other issues, such as finding a Doctor replacement.
Reed felt that this would create more work overall, but was fine with
this approach. David is going to check with silverorange to see if
they can help with this. In the meantime, Reed will continue to work
on the back-end repository and templating transitions.

For the Doctor replacement, Gordon has added basic SVN support to
Bespin and is going to look into what needs to happen to embed Bespin
on the staging server for us to start testing. It could be worthwhile
to talk to Ben and Dion more about this to get their advice.

- Archiving, Migrating and Updating Content

David has continued with archiving and is bringing the number of files
down. Reed said there is no magic number to try for -- fewer is just
better. David mentioned he has had some problems removing a few files
from the repository and Reed said he'd look into it.

For content migration, Sheppy mentioned that the stats for the
documentation directories was helpful (and a bit surprising -- it was
interesting to see that the www.mozilla.org/editor directory was
getting so much traffic). Next steps are to look at the top
directories and come up with a plan. David offered to help as needed
and suggested that looking at the directories in MXR was the easiest
way to view all the files.

- Localization

We skipped this section since fantasai was not at the meeting.

- Analyzing Stats

Deepa has reported that the recent update to the Urchin code on the
site doesn't seem to be working as intended and Reed said he can look
into it. David also mentioned that Deepa and James are available to
create any reports that people are interested in.

- Roadmap

David mentioned he had put a roadmap page together to help with
planning. This covers things we've discussed before and have covered
in other places, so nothing should be too surprising. People are free
to review, add or edit the page.
