Hi all,

Now that we've got kuma launched, it's time to start thinking about the next steps for improving MDN. Looking at the site, it's pretty clear to me that it could use a refresh - and this is feedback I've gotten from a lot of you as well. So, I will be kicking off a redesign project with the following goals:

* Improve performance
* Better site structure, navigation & ability to quickly find key content
* Clearer separation of product and Open Web Content /web standards
* Update the design to something dynamic, modern, & more consistent with the brand
* Improve user experience & usability
* Improve SEO
* More flexibility in how content is presented (especially home page & landing pages, plus add products e.g. Firefox OS)

To start, I'd like to have, with help from website UX, a detailed analysis of the usability and user experience done on the site and also do some comparison to other reference sites as a baseline. From there, we'll take that information, the goals, and feedback/ideas from the community and start to build out a set of specific improvements we can make to the site. Then we prioritize, define further, and start implementing (balanced with the huge list of technical features we still want to add to kuma). I'll be setting up some kickoff meetings next week to get the ball rolling.

How can you be involved? I am looking to form working teams to help define & spec requirements, prioritize, and help drive specific areas such as design, UX ,etc. I also, of course, want feedback and ideas for improvements throughout the process. I've started a wiki page for the project & will keep it updated as we get moving on this (it is pretty basic at this point): https://wiki.mozilla.org/MDN/Development/Redesign .

Please contact me if you want to be involved, have questions or concerns, or generally want to know more. I'm really excited about this project and want you to be, too!
