Would it work to create a filtered feed via Yahoo Pipes, to elide the
new-user entries?

You already suggested it and I (and someone else) already tried it,
but the MDC feed doesn't contain enough information to make this
useful (links to diffs, iirc). The resulting feed also wouldn't group
by page, which is a very useful feature of the default HTML display.

All this will do is stop contributions. How to new users become useful
contributors? Right now the only way is to start with some useless
contributions.

To be clear, by "new user spam" he means the "NewUserLog" [1]
extension output, which apears on "Special:RecentChanges". This gets
aggregated to the feed, as well as the page itself.
