Subject: Localizing Mozilla firefox to Amharic (Ethiopian national language)
Hey there!
I'm a university student with another three friends interested in localizing
the mozilla firefox browser into our national language!
We'd appreciate any help on how to get started and look for any other
interested individuals.
with regards,
Emanuel

Hello Ama,
I definitely recommend that you use Narro, a new translating webtool hosted on Mozilla! With Narro, my
team completed translating the FF 3 tree into Vietnamese in a quick and easy way!

Just get here:
https://l10n.mozilla.org/narro
Create an account. Choose your language, then choose the project. And that's it, you can begin to translate right away.

If your language is not available there (as I can see by now), don't worry, just contact Alexandru (the author).
More info, check the Narro mail group, especially my topic there "Can you add support for Vietnamese":
http://groups.google.com/group/narro-project

I already wrote a guide for my team about localizing FF. It covers
all other old and new guides in one small easy step-by-step guide. This
guide is especially for new localization, which doesn't have a CVS
directory on Mozilla server, so I think it will be helpful for you. If
you need the guide, I will translate and post it. -----

Just to comment here, things running on the l10n server are not
officially supported. They might be good and useful, and in the case of
my stuff, essential. But l10n.mozilla.org is a dumping ground of
projects in flux.

Hi Emanual,

welcome to the club.

http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Localization_Process is the entry point for
the documentation around the flow on getting from where you are right
now to a full Firefox localization. You should have the biggest point
here in check, as you're already a team to work on it.

There are various tools out there that can help with the actual
translation work, you already heard NGUYEN Manh Hùng make a case for
narro, but there's more, find a list on
http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Tools. We're not in a state where we have
one tool to hit all nails on the head, so you should just take a peek
here and there and figure out which suits your background best.

First, you need to translate Firefox on your own.

If you and your friends want to use Narro, Amharic is supported, one
of you should tell me his Narro username so I can add validation,
export and import rights. You can export from Narro anytime a language
pack to test it in Firefox.

After you complete the translation, you can start distributing it on
addons.mozilla.org as a language pack.

After that, you'd better come back to ask how you can get your
language included in the shipping locales, the process will take a
while (months).
