Hi folks,
it looks as if my last post <115996...@user.newsoffice.de> or
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.l10n/msg/ffe76bb7e8cfcb48 did
not fully describe the current state of Lightning localization on the
MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH.

Stefan Sitter just ran a diff between the SUNBIRD_0_3_BRANCH, from which
Sunbird 0.3 will be released and the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH. The results do
not look as promising as my last posting seemed to suggest.

For quality reasons, we will only ship with the languages that do not
have major issues. Therefore we ask you to fix these issues ASAP (as
soon as possible), because we are planning on releasing another release
candidate on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and we are hoping that this will
become the release.

I also want to reiterate what I said earlier. With the exception of the
calendar/installer/custom.properties file, all *calendar* localization
files are identical on the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH and the
SUNBIRD_0_3_BRANCH.

So all you need to do is copy the SUNBIRD_0_3_BRANCH localization over
to the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH with the exception of the file
calendar/installer/custom.properties mentioned above.

So here are the results:
========================
Languages that are ok:
ca, de, es-ES, hu, mn, nl, pl, ru, sk, sl

Languages that are ok, but have minor issues:
fr (some small differences in translation)

Languages that are not ok and have major issues
- cs not all strings translated, different translations
- da not all strings translated, different translations
- ga-IE not all strings translated, different translations
- eu not all strings translated, errors like br&andFullName;
- it lot of missing files, not all strings translated

Detailed results:
=================

http://ssitter.googlepages.com/l10n-diff-ga-IE.txt

MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH updated with SUNBIRD branch @ 2006-10-04 12:48
http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=all&branch=MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH&branchtype=match&dir=l10n%2Fda%2Fcalendar&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=week&mindate=&maxdate=&cvsroot=%2Fl10n

I hope that brings us a jour ... unfortunately, i would like to have
made a few small changes to /toolkit as well - but that's stil frozen
;-(

None the less -- this should mean that we'll also be ok for Lightning
0.3 as well as Sunbird 0.3

Sorry I made the last changes (br&andFullName; fix too) in trunk and
not in MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH. I have updated the branch an all must be ok
now.

thanks for the advice

I'll be back to home this evening and I can't commit anything before;
anyway: I don't know what to do! I've committed my sunbird translation
a long time ago, and I found my langpack in the google web site we used
(excuse me, I have no time to look for the name of the web site owner)
to see which langpack were ready.
In the /calendar folder, there's even a Lightning folder, so I though
my work to be finished, but it seems not!
Using the CVS, I've committed the whole thing to the /l10n/it/calendar
folder, but maybe I've just updated SUNBIRD_0_3_BRANCH if you say I'm
not up to date (I don't know precisely how these things work). So, now
the question is: since my translation is up to date both in
SUNBIRD_0_3_BRANCH and in my PC, how can I commit my translation to
MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH?

thank you,
Iacopo

I've tried to work with tortoiseCVS and I think I've made the new commit
even in MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH. We'll see tomorrow!

http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org shows nothing from you unfortunately.

I still don't know very well how to use bonsai, actually. This is my
first attempt with CVS and the whole Mozilla localization process.
I'll try, in these two days, to commit the translation to the mozilla
branch with the help of my team leader; but if I can't make it, can you
just move all files from Sunbird branch to Mozilla branch? They should
be the same; and just for this time!

Thanks,
Iacopo

Ok, now I think I've resolved. After the commit, I've done a checkout on
it folder using MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH as tag, and nothing changed. Bonsai
doesn't show me anything, but maybe it's because I'm not able to use it.

At the moment
http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=all&branch=&branchtype=match&dir=l10n%2Fit&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=day&mindate=&maxdate=&cvsroot=%2Fl10n
shows only a part of the necessary changes. If you need any help with
committing your localization to the 1.8 branch feel free to ask one of
the developers in the #calendar channel on irc.mozilla.org. One of them
(dmose, lilmatt, jminta, mvl) will surely help you out.

Just guessing, but make sure that you're using a branch tag, and not
just a revision tag.

commandline folks would do that with cvs tag -b MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH.

The strange thing is that I've made a commit in all the calendar
directory, but it has just committed these few files.
I've tried to ask on IRC, but it seem nobody is at the computer right
now, I'll try again later.

Did you cvs add any new files?

I did a cvs add before committing anything, but it told me where were no
new files to be added. I've though to remove everything and then add
everythng again, but I'm scared I can do worse than now.

Just to make sure,

http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=all&branch=&branchtype=match&dir=l10n%2Fit%2Fcalendar&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=week&mindate=&maxdate=&cvsroot=%2Fl10n

does show, I guess two, check-ins.

calendar.dtd shows mostly style changes, though, and in terms of source
code quality, those look like regressions.

Looking in this page:
http://ssitter.googlepages.com/compare-locales-MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH.txt it
seems that I've made it! Now I don't have a long error report anymore.
There's still a little error (in it and fr translation). It asks me to
add "REG_APP_DESC" to my localized file. I made a new check-out of
english files just to be sure, but in custom.properties I can't find
that key, even in the english file!
What should I do?

Hello Iacopo,

don't worry about this file for the moment.
It belongs to Sunbird and is not shipped with Lightning.

But you can test the Italian builds for 0.3rc2, see
[http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar/2006/10/sunbird_and_lightning_03rc2_av.html]
