Hi,

I am an automated script letting you know the AMO .po files have just been
updated. Unless something unusual is happening, we do weekly pushes on
Thursdays so any strings committed by then will go live. To give you an
idea of the number of new strings I will calculate untranslated strings.

Hi Awesomeness,

Will Github be used this time to localize these new strings?

Best,

Not yet. Unfortunately these strings are still in SVN. I don't think
Verbatim speaks git yet so we haven't been able to move them over.

I see list of states in .po. Because it is not for the first time when I
see such list in AMO L10N I have a question: why do we have this list in
main .po instead of separated .po file? What I can remember many from us
translated such list in the past (before this list was removed from l10n)
and now we see this list again. I don't think it is optimal.

We are working on it. I'm kind of waiting for verbatim to understand
git before sending out links but if that doesn't happen soon I'll just
link to the .po files directly and we can figure out flow.

I wrote a blog post this morning to help explain the direction we're
going in:
http://micropipes.com/blog/2013/02/11/inception-projects-within-projects/

Cheers,

FWIW Pootle speaks git since long time ago. I believe Milos mentioned
localizer permissions as the reason to keep using SVN.

Hi will,
I have a question for states, there is a limit in string length?
I have seen that the longest en-US string is of 44 character, in italian
the longest string is of 53 character. Is this a problem or not?
Thanks

Most of our strings should be pretty flexible although we've run into
tight spots with Italian before. Would you link the name of the state
in the .po file? I don't see them.

Hi

I can't view Danish messages.po 'Diff to previous 113039'. I get an
error message. "An Exception Has Occurred".

Hi Wil,
This string:
https://localize.mozilla.org/it/amo/translate.html?unit=1408230
is refered to an addon or to an app (or both)?
I have tried to see in comments to understand the context, but
unfortunately I am unable to determine the subject.

That's a lot of new strings and an aweful amount of words. The nl locale
is pretty up to date, but the amount of untranslated words was stated to
be a whopping near 11000. Have mercy with us poor translators!

I noticed the sharp increase this week also. It looked like most of the
new strings were from the developer hub pages which are dev
documentation (so, they are wordy).

The plan is still to split projects but if there is something I can do
aside from pushing for that let me know.

Thanks,

Wil

It refers only to apps. There are regular, privileged, and certified apps.

Hi Wil,

I have trouble locating some strings (like category names) which I didn't
find in the 2 po files. Can you tell me again where I can find and
translate those strings?

The categories are stored in the AMO DB. You need to localize them
through here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/localizers/

What means in this string “integrator”?
https://localize.mozilla.org/it/amo/translate.html?unit=1407904

it is a machine or a person?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrator

I have a request:, if possible, is it possible, as made by Persona
project to maintain the old translation as fuzzy for new strings that
have a little Levenshtein-Distance by the old one?
If it is not possible, no problem :-)
Sandro

I'm using standard gettext tools to extract the strings. If that
capability is built in I could turn it on, but I haven't heard of it before.

Ok, it is not important. I am new to gettext and localization, but I
have see that for Persona, the old translation of a changed string is
maintained.
But, really, it is not really important.

Hi all,
yesterday I have committed a little change in some strings on the AMO
mobile website, but I don't see changes on the pages of demo site:
https://addons-dev.allizom.org/it/android/themes/

For example, the string “Registra” should become “Registrati”.
Is this my mistake?

Hi team,

I think this a key question - in such a *huge* project as Marketplace, with
thousands of words, being able to extract fuzzy strings (like other
projects do) will help us localizers quite a lot. Please have mercy on us
all! :P
