On https://addons.mozilla.org/da/firefox/personas/ there are two
strings, which are in English in the search bar "search for personas"
and "all personas" are in English. I cannot find any of those strings in
any .po file.

Another question:
I guess the word "personas" is a brand name and should not be localized,
right?
Why are personas so distinguished from other themes? Is there a great
user facing difference from other themes except not requiring a restart?
The addons manager in Firefox treats them as one thing. Do we expect
users to know to click on the Personas link when looking for themes?
Especially non-English users, in case Personas is a brand name and
should not be translated.

Wil from the AMO team will probably be the one to answer this question

Personas is the brand name chosen for right now. So, yes, it probably
should not be translated.

Difference? I think you've nailed one major difference. Additionally,
from a developer standpoint, the ability to create Personas is easier.
Because of that, I think there are thousands more Personas right now
than themes. Lastly, I believe that Personas change the entire chrome
of the browser, including tab bar, bookmark bar, status bar, etc.
Themes, in my experience, do not change the entire chrome of the browser.

I cannot comment on what we expect users to do when they interact with
this. But, I have forwarded your exact message to the Personas product
management team responsible for getting this into AMO and into Firefox.

If you have any other opinions or insights, please send them along. I
will be sure to send them to Suneel Gupta (Personas project manager)
when I receive them!! Thank you for the comments.

I can't find the string "If you are not prompted to install Personas for
Firefox in a moment, please click here
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/10900>." in
my po file. Also all Personas categories are in English too.

Regards.

There's strings for the personas categories that you can localize via
the localizer tools online.

Plus, there's an encoding problem for non-latin alphabets in the add-on
builder page (https://addons.mozilla.org/el/developers/tools/builder),
everything works fine except the text that appears once you click on an
asterisk.

I have interpreted Persona as the brand name and Personas as the plural of
it; is that correct?

That string wasn't hardcoded but didn't make it into the .po files.
I'll do a new merge shortly.

The Personas categories are synced directly from getpersonas.com which
is only English. If you want to localize them you can do so on
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/localizers/categories [1] but be aware
they could change if getpersonas.com changes. We're going to be in a
transitional phase with that website for a while so things could be
awkward to localize (they are awkward to code!) :).

Wil

[1] Also note the categories appear doubled up - that's actually because
one is for Firefox and one for Thunderbird. This page could use a facelift.

I've been sitting in the Personas meetings where we discuss moving it
into the Firefox product and onto AMO.

As far as I can tell, Persona should be considered the singular form of
the plural, branded name "Personas".

I would like to suggest to use "Personas" as brand name and don't
translate, but leave "persona" to localizer for a proper local name
(not a brand name but kind of a nickname). It's really strange to mix
a English noun other than brand name in Chinese (I think this is the
same in many language).

Actually, since "Chinese … lack any significant grammatical number at
all" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural), we should prevent to
translate "A problem occured uploading your persona" to "上傳 persona 時發生
問題" (or something like that,) and keep Personas (in English) on the
same page --

* for people here who don't familiar with English, they might
considering that "persona" and "personas" is refer to the same thing
at first, which is wrong;
* but for people speaking good English, they don't really need a
translated site.

Also, the zh-CN version of GetPersonas.com, http://personas.g-fox.cn/
, have translate Personas to "炫彩风格" ("cool style [for browser]"), but
still use "Personas" on the heading image and many place in the site.
I think we can go this way and keep things going on.

Hi Bob,

That sounds perfectly reasonable. Please feel free to follow that style.
