Hi everybody, this is my first post here.
I came up with idea of online password manger which allows not only automatic login to website, but also (and this is the most important part) to automatic change all or some passwords and each password will be replaced with a complex random new one, encrypted and saved to the server.

The project include three parts:
*The first one: website where passwords are stored.
*The second one is the login module: this part must work on all platforms because it would be the most used part. Users need to use the module on their smartphone, job computer, mac laptop...For this part, I think a Bookmarklet(bookmarket that runs javascript) will works in most cases.
*The third part is passwords replacement tool: this part will not be frequently used: so, for simplicity this could run only on windows, linux and mac. The user open the tool, connect to his account, select accounts that he wants to change its passwords. And then let the tool do his job (if a website needs captcha to change password, of course, it's the user who will need to enter it). This part will allow also easily adding new websites to our supported websites list. And it will be build with xul, because it's important that the website which we are changing password thinks that he runs under a navigator)
The best part of it the is of the project is the fact that is not too late change your passwords and save your
And it's kind of complementary with browserid (or persona) because browserid is easier to use but it needs along time for the websites to adopt it, and the project is less easy than browserid but it can start working from today and could support all websites (if there are on the list, otherwise it should be added easily)
So what do you thing about this project?

Hi Riadh, and welcome to the list!

That's a great idea, and innovation in password management is sorely
needed. As far as I know, LastPass is the only major cross-browser,
browser-based password management solution.

(Of course, if Persona / BrowserID are successful, we hope that the
password proliferation will eventually stop altogether, but as you point
out, that won't happen overnight :))

I think it will probably end up being a lot harder than it looks!

Aside from both your project and Persona / BrowserID being in the
authentication / identity-management space, I'm not sure I see too much
similarity or overlap between the projects.

Still, give it a shot! And when you start adding user accounts, let
people log in with Persona. :)

Actually there is Passpack which is better than LastPass in many ways.
Which also covers everything you are mentioning except for the password
changing part. May be you can contact the author?

Hi,
Thank you,for your suggestions and comments

I know it's very hard project.
But, I will try to give it a shot like Dan said.
I will also follow the suggestion of Burak (getting in touch with Passpack and trying to figure out know what they think).
And if the project succeed, I will of course include persona :)
