Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply, and apologies for my late one (I had a
problem with my news client and did not see it).

I don't think it would be possible for saveURI in this case to interfere
with privacy browsing. It is being used to save a rasterized SVG that
the user created with the application.

That's too bad that its null, because it makes it necessary to poll for activity in individual tabbrowsers now - which they recommend not to do - and to use the user-interactive-active notification..

Looking at the history of that code, it does not appear to ever have

From Observer topic notifications documentation, the "user-interaction-active" notification is supposed to have the "subject" be the window that is supposed to be of type nsIDOMWindow - to let you know which document the user is active in.

No matter where I initiate the observer - the subject and data are always null - while the notification is indeed captured.

If I don't yet hear on the specs being ironed out on the opti9onal widget
project, than I will actually hold off doing so on Monday, until I do. So,

I will soon be adding a UI widget. Any ideas on this tht can help because

An alternative architecture I've seen used by some developers with
success is to use a socket connection to talk to a service running on
the host operating system, eg 1Password has a 'helper' daemon running at
all times on my Mac, and the extension just uses the WebSocket protocol
to communicate with it.

I want to call a specific function (ssl3_GetTLSUniqueChannelBindi ng) in NSS (Network Security Services) from a firefox extension. Obviously, it is not possible to call this function directly from an extension.

But what is the right way to extend firefox to make this possible. Do I have to write a XPCOM interface/component? I do not really understand how to make the connection between NSS and an extension.

Yes. xpcom.dll no longer exists, and therefore neither does xpcom.lib.

You should be able to just link directly against xul.lib/xul.dll... this
change merely combined independent DLLs as a performance boost, it
didn't really change any of the functionality.

No. However, you can use ctypes from a DOM worker thread and just make

Could you post your JS code? I have a thought about what's actually
going wrong, and I suspect that we're auto-converting a JS function into
a ctypes function pointer. But without reading the code, I can't be sure
of my hunch and don't want to make any other guesses!

about:home buttons don't work in new XUL browser window

I'm creating an addon that generates a new XUL browser window (not using the built-in Firefox browser tabs). However, when I go to about:home in that new window, non of the launcher buttons work, and the search doesn't function either.. All of the other about:XXX URLs work. Any idea why this might be happening only for about:home?

I am not sure I understand.

I have defined the JavaScript function as global. I have also tried defining the C++ callback variable as global.

No matter what I do, the exception is thrown if I call the callback sometime after the exported function returns.

I must be missing something. What I have going on is...

Correct. What's happening is that the javascript function which you
passed as a callback only lives as long as some JS object references it.
So this pattern is always a GC hazard:

myCFunction(function(arg) {
...

Instead, you should do something like this:

var gCallback; // global

gCallback = function(arg) { // gCallback holds "myCallback" alive until

If you don't find the defined toolbarbutton on the Customize dialog take
a look at an example I try to send to you directly.

If the menu doesn't show up, I guess my very first comment maybe valid,
try with toolbaritem to hold the menu.
