I am upgrading from 2 to 3.0 rc 1.
I am using imap against a Google account which has:
inbox 7000 messages
All mail 9500
Sent Mail 400
After starting 3.0 for the first time the system downloaded (I
beleive) the inbox and then set about indexing.
The it started indexing various collection of mail which I cannot
identify because it says:
Indexing 1 of 4
Indexing 1 of 13
Indexing 1 of 20
etc etc.
It also, when I click on All Mail, or Sent goes of too download more
messages from google.
My question/problem is that I have no idea how long this will take,
and will not necessarily know when it is complete rather than
'resting' before I click on a new folder and it starts downloading/
indexing again.
BTW it has been doing this for 2 hours now (with a dual core processor
and a high quality broadband line)
Comments or suggestion welcome!
Thanks
Felix

Indexing won't get confused by you clicking on a new folder; there is no
need to avoid doing things out of concern for the indexer. You can
click with abandon and quit whenever you want to quit.
I agree it would be nice to have a way to tell how far indexing is in
the big picture. We are unlikely to be able to address that until
Thunderbird 3.1 at this point, although an extension may be able to
improve things somewhat.

Why would TB 3RC1 be indexing IMAP messages unless you are in
disconnected mode?
I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to by disconnected mode,
but Thunderbird indexes all IMAP messages regardless of whether the
folder is marked for offline use or online use. In the event the folder
is marked for offline use, gloda will wait for the message body to be
downloaded before indexing.
If you tell Thunderbird to "Work Offline", indexing will actually be
disabled until you go online again.
