the auto-update of the Shredder nightly build (tonight) suggests that
Lightning 1.0 Beta 2 PRE (Jan 31 2010) is incompatible. Anyone care to
comment?

There doesn't seem to be any newer version of Lightning available,
unless Shredder 3.0.3 uses comm-1.9.2 (I'm guessing not?).

Yeah, I can't get anything to work with 3.0.3, either the comm-1.9.2
or the 1.9.1. Hmmm...seems to be broken.

Lightning nightly builds have moved onto the Lanikai nightlies (3.1).
This is because they don't have the resources to support both branches.

Your best solution would be to use the beta1 available from amo which
will be pretty much exactly the same as the last Lightning nightly build
the was on the 3.0 branch.

You can get the Lightning beta from:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313

If you want to continue using the Lightning nightlies, then you'll need
to switch over to the Lanikai nightlies:

So, there'll be a Lightning that supports TB 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 when they
arrive?
(just, not the nightlies for now, or did I read what you're saying wrong?)

I've unwound back to TB 3.0.1, by uninstalling 3.0.2pre, as I can't live
without Lightning, and 3.0.2pre didn't fix the bug I wanted. Nice that
the unwind worked no probs.

The Lightning beta build works with all 3.0.x versions:

Cool. That got it working. Thanks Mark.

I tried out the 3.1 a week or two ago, and it had lots of interface
ugliness that I couldn't handle. Maybe I'll give it another shot...

Hmm...I just went ahead and installed 3.1a1pre (this is what's in the
repo I use for Linux), and the nightly updater still didn't work for
lightning.

I also had some issues with the interface (for example, there are
three magnifying glass icons in the search bar).

Oh well...stick with 3.0 for now.

Are you referring to
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=540466>? If not, can you
be more specific?

If the problem was that the update refused to install, you can use the
Nightly Tester Tools add-on to make it install. Was that the problem?

I'm not aware of such a bug. If this exists when running in safe mode,
can you please file a bug?

If you're willing to live with a somewhat bumpier ride, staying on the
3.1 branch is super helpful for testing purposes...

Thanks!
