Does anybody know where I can get a compatible German Language Pack for
TB 3.0.1?

I need it to support the German users of our extension QuickFolders. Or
is it possible to pull out the Language pack by doing some automated
process on the German Thunderbird Installer?

Or maybe I could convert the Postbox language pack to Thunderbird
somehow? Any method is okay as long as I can keep my English
Installation for everyday use, development and testing. If possible I
wouldn't want to install 2 paralle installations of TB but use the Quick
Locale Plugin for switching languages, like it was possible with TB2.

thanks in advance
Axel

I think we used to have xpis for each langpack, but I can't find them.

This seems to be the source:

has the language packs, I'm linking to the one built on windows, but it
works on all platforms.

Hi Axel,

thanks for the link I downloaded a few of them to my XP Pro platform.

However I noticed that some strings (especially on menu items) are still
in English, and they are not from extensions; example: I switched to
German locale, after installing de.xpi, but "New Subfolder" remains just
that. I am trying to support a German extension user so it would be neat
if I had the correct German translations in my screenshots. Also it
would be helpful for my own localization efforts (I am a native German
speaker, but my back-translations are not always the same as in the
official locale, so I like to check)

Would this just be a side effect of some of the other extensions I have
installed or are these xpi's incomplete?

I guess I'll do some hacking to find out...

regards
Axel

I forgot to mention: I am using Quick Locale Switcher 1.7 for changing
locales. Also I have nglayout.debug.disable_xul_cache set (to true),
does that have any influence? I am definitely certain that I have
restarted Thunderbird on locale change... are there any extensions know
for hindering complete locale changes?

thanks in advance

It appears like a lot of the strings are not translated by the language
pack; or maybe its not even applied at all (using Quick Locale
Switcher)... any idea what is going on? Can I switch it manually somehow
to test?

E,g, the whole File menu the Edit Menu, View Menu, Message Menu are all
still in English. Might be a problem with Quick Locale Switcher, that
doesn't offer a "de" locale only "de-DE". Do you know of a way to map
de-DE to de? Or should I simply rename / repackage the de.xpi??

thanks in advance

Tb 3.0.1 with Win XP and German language pack works fine for me. The
active language pack can be modified with general.useragent.locale,
maybe some extension altered this). Accessible via Tools > Options >
First pane, first tab.

Hint: You will have to reinstall this language pack after the 3.0.2
release because starting with 3.0.2, they get compatible with the whole
branch.
