  Just a thought, the Opera 10.10 browser has a option to remove the &lt;br&gt; menu bar and use their own app menu. I belive that it is an option in &lt;br&gt; the context menu on the menu bar. At least it was in the beta. I &lt;br&gt; haven&#39;t tested the final version. Anyway, it looked a lot like what &lt;br&gt; you where thinking about here.

  Hmm. Why wouldn&#39;t that be possible? It&#39;s all just code :-) &lt;br&gt; Seriously, if a user pulls down a menu, that&#39;s where their focus is. Why &lt;br&gt; not use more of the screen? If the sub-menus were spatially separate &lt;br&gt; from the main menu, tied by arrows, you might avoid the cognitive burden &lt;br&gt; of having more options to choose from...
