1. Copy Email Address
2. Copy Link Location
Copying the email address does what you would expect, putting
"na...@domain.com" in the clipboard. The Copy Link Location copies the
contents of the "href" attribute, putting something like
"mailto:na...@domain.com" in the clipboard.
I'm finding it a bit difficult to imagine a situation in which one would
want to copy the link location for an email link. If there is something
I'm missing, please let me know.
The only argument I could think of for this was consistency with other
links - though I'm not sure it's a strong point.
While we're at it, I'm not sure how useful the "Properties" menu item
and dialog are for an email link (or any link, for that matter). That,
however, is another (and probably more complex) issue.
Can we scrap the Copy Link Location in mailto: links?
Cheers,
Steven Garrity
The properties thing appears for (almost) every element, so I see no
reason to prevent getting to it for some specific cases. It is
occasionally useful, too, though I can't remember the last time I
actually used it. :)

I'd have no problem with nuking it good and proper. Though I wont
mention the problem of sharing common context menus/items, as that's a
huge problem. ;)

The "Properties" item for links gets useful after installing the
"Extended Link Properties" extension
(https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/798/). It provides among other
information File Size and Last Modified Date for file links, by
overlaying the properties dialog. Very helpful to see when/if a file
changed on the server, be it an extension, a setup or a driver...

If I'm looking for a job and somewhere on monster says "click here to
apply" where that hyperlink is a mailto: like the following, it makes
sense (at least for me).
href="mailto:jo...@example.com?subject=Senior Astrophysical
Thermohydrologist&body=I would like to apply for this job. I have
attached my resume for your review."
Since I use gmail, when I click on that link, it doesn't go to my
email client of choice (bug? extension request?). I need to make sure
I spell "Senior Astrophysical Thermohydrologist" correctly so they
even look at the email, and if they request that the body of my email
look exactly like that, then I need to copy it just like it is.
So it's useful to me, but I'm aware I might be the 1% that uses it and
the menu item still might be ripe for removal.

P.S. Steven, thanks for your work on Firefox/Gaim/GNOME/etc. I really
appreciate pretty things.

Bug #102418 seems to address this for the ye-olde Mozilla suite. Is it
appropriate to file a new bug for Firefox?
Steven Garrity
Yes, please do file a new bug.
Gavin
And if this functionnallity is deleted (I hope not ) , I think the
properties element is necessary to be able to copy the full URI
whithout retyping the mailto: ...
I know the thread's a little old, but I agree with this position. I
really don't want to see the copy link location functionality pulled
from the browser. I find myself having to handle mailto links
rather often lately, and copying ma...@example.com is rather shy of
copying
mailto:ma...@example.com?subject=example&cc=othe...@example.com&body=Now%20is%20the%20time%20for%20all%20good%20men%20to%20come%20to%20the%20aid%20of%20their%20country.
Not a dev. Just my $.02USD.

I was sure I had filed a new bug for this, but I can't find it. I think
I might have "the old-timers..."
Anyhow, just filed: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349865
