Installer and charsets, unicode support?

Hi,

I recall talking to Rob on this, but I'm not sure where we are in the
installer world right now.

Did we drop all the windows platforms that actually require us to use
code pages in the installer instead of unicode? If so, could we drop the
charset requirement in the installer?

That'd be a really nifty gift to India in particular for Firefox 3, and
we're trying to get many more localizations up there, and more momentum.

Hey Axel,

The installer currently requires charsets so the answer to your
questions is no. I am currently evaluating a pre-release version of
NSIS with UNICODE support and hope to get it in for Firefox 3.0 but it
is too early to say whether we will use it for Firefox 3.0.

Good news :-)

Should we have a bug to track that? I wonder if we could even do that in
a minor update, if we wanted to.

updater.exe/ini would be a different bug, I suppose?

I just started looking at it on Friday and there are already a few bugs
for the installer to support UNICODE so I don't see much point in filing
a bug as of yet.

Fixing updater.exe and updater.ini would be a different bug and I
haven't seen a software update bug for changing them to support UNICODE.
