Necko and Gecko Relationship

My specific interest is better understanding how the rendering engine
presents assets to the viewer as they are downloaded.
I was not able to derive this relationship by reading the
Gecko_DOM_Reference and Necko_Architecture documents independently.
Any thoughts in documentation or comment form are welcomed and much appreciated.

Note that the page Asa linked to is out of data in lots of details, but
the broad outline is still correct... for now.
We should really update it. I wonder whether the original source is
available or whether we just have to recreate the whole thing.

There's a dia attachment at the bottom, but I couldn't check if the modern
dia version handles it.
