By self-sustained, do you mean doing its own fundraising?

Our experience of Taiwan community on the funds side is that,
I feel we were not really need that much of funds than we thought.

For community, most of the spending were on running events,
and we ask for user to paid some amount on ticket on most of our events
(such as party, workshop, lecture...) ,
we'll indicate clearly that this is for the food, vanue rents and other
expanse, not revenue.

Together with the resource from reps program,
most of the events we held are not and shouldn't be* *deficit.

We'll also found some sponsors on some of our pass large events, like
tech-media, information company,
then you can break-even easier.

Other than running events, our community don't really spend much on daily
work,
most of the spending will covered by everyone, as "pay for your own coffee"
at MozCafe,
that should be reasonable.

Hi,

In Mozilla Hispano, historically we've been paying the servers from our
own pocket (a small server o shared wasn't too much) till a year and a
half ago more less when mozilla stated to pay for our server via Reps.
The domain has been always property and paid by Mozilla.

In terms of local space, for us is not that important since we are a lot
of different Spanish speaking countries so working online is a must for
us (regular meetings via audio and sometimes video). When we have to do
things locally such as events, we've been trying to find free places or
ask for Reps budged when that wasn't possible.

Speaking about modelling, I've been documenting our experience in a
series of blog posts here:

http://www.nukeador.com/tag/community-building/

I hope that helps you!

Regards.

Hello,

Irvin. Thanks for sharing your tactic. It would be good for people to pay some little funds for tickets but again that might reduce the number of attendants.
Venues here are really tricky to get, it was what actually drove me to raise this up.

Ruben. Thank you so much for sharing and I most def will read through your blog, I'm documenting about my community too. Online collaboration wouldn't be bad and was our initial approach but internet access is stressing in some parts of my community. Yes, we often use our own money on somethings, but we want to reduce on that.

The community here is growing so fast that we think we have to plan ahead before it gets trickier in future.
