it's great to be back here, with some good news.
As the festival approaches, and we feel guilty for not being very involved in these months, we pushed a bit forward with a project we had.
We developed a Facebook application Service and created an instance for Mozilla Drumbeat.
You can find it here:
http://www.facebook.com/mozilladrumbeat?v=app_154456667908915&ref=ts
What it basically does is to feed multiple sources, and print it on a facebook canvas tab.
Canvas is a way that facebook uses to render data into its own platform (the other is iFrame which is undesirable for a bunch of reasons)
It'll be completely configurable through a BackOffice (which is still in dev phase) so that you can configure the feed source(s) and the number of items to be printed.
As you may also notice, there is a Main Item that is selected (will be actually) through the Back Office, or selected random on the first source.
Each item comes with a classic facebook button, that will let user share the item on their own wall.
It is now feeding basically 3 feeds.
1. Festival Blog feed
2. Planet Drumbeat feed
3. Tweets with #drumbeat from twitter search
The good parts are that the whole UI is completely configurable. And this is done this way in order to get consistency with the Festival pages look and feel.
The bad parts is that Facebook apps have a very limited asset of functionalities to get.
We're still improving it, but I think it might worth it.
----
In order to get the most out of this small and dumb app what I suggest is to have it as a default landing tab for those who are not Mozilla Drumbeat fan yet.
Using a more informative MAIN ITEM (as explained before) we could get ppl in the know of what Drumbeat is in a snapshot (yeah probably some good copy is needed).
I added the tab to the page, but I didn't make it as default landing tab yet.
Please let me know what you think of it, and if you have some suggestions, tweak or so.
Bye bye
my two cents and love

Update:

Applications Tabs on Profiles
As we previously announced, we are removing application tabs from user profiles. Starting this Wednesday, users will no longer be able to add them. We will notify users of this change on their tabs, and existing application tabs will be removed starting November 3rd. This change will not impact applications on Page tabs.
