I'd like to ask your help with programming the three community calls remaining before the Drumbeat Festival kicks off Nov 3.
As you know, we've been inviting a different guest speaker to do a presentation on our calls each week.
We'd like to expand on that going forward. And ideally add some drama!
Let's brainstorm some ideas on this thread.
* Who's someone fascinating you'd like to hear from?
* A debate you'd like to listen in on or participate in?
* A pitch, presentation or product you're going to present at the Festival that you'd like to get some early feedback on?
* An idea, project or proposal you'd like to try and sell to the group?
Hearing from like-minded people we already agree with is great.
But having a bit of drama or stake -- a debate, a specific proposal to vote up or down, a tangible product or presentation to react to -- is even better.
What do you think?

Just a few suggestions .. Larry Lessig (copyright) , Chris Messina
(open web & Google) , Julius Genachowski (net neutrailty) , Evan
Prodromou (social web)

Can Mozilla have a strong position against Google's proposal to close
the open web with big
corporation like Verizon when much of their revenue comes from search
deals with Google

Good point. I love the idea of starting a debate during the call.
For example, I would love a debate on:
*open access - open content,
*Public Library digitization and its threats.
*Open Web vs. Web (the word "open" and why it may obscure its meaning);
Idea for projects:
*other P2PU like initiatives (I recently learned about some in Spain and I'm
sure there are many others in Europe and around the world);
*social web initiatives (Diaspora?);
etc.
People:
*Larry Lessig
*Robert Darnton (from Harvard Public Library) - I recently finished one
of his books
(a compilation of articles on Books digitization and how it affects the
Knowledge and
Innovation Society).
I recently proposed some improvements to marketing calls, one of them
being the
adding a new section "book review" - review a book during every call and
seems that people enjoys it.
Regarding logistics, I would recommend to have slides. Here is a great
example
on how we could do collaborative slides using etherpad :):

My first 2 cents,

I think it'd be great if we had a standing agenda item that closed out each call where we all discuss potential guest speakers, discussion topics, etc for the following week's call.
Paul Booker: I know you suggested some ideas as well. Will add a link to your post as well!
