I'm excited to announce the initial release of the Account Manager add-on.
As some of you already know, we have been experimenting with identity in the browser through the Weave project. We implemented an automatic sign-in feature, and added support for signing into OpenID sites with your Weave account. As the core Weave add-on became closer to beta, however, we decided to spin those components off into their own add-on so that we could continue to grow them separately.
This initial release contains the auto sign-in and OpenID integration features previously in Weave[1]. However, we have big plans for this add-on, and among other things we are planning features that will help you manage your online accounts (not just your passwords). Thus, we decided to call it Account Manager.
To learn more about the project check out our requirements/planning wiki here:
Hope you like it, let us know what you think! And if you want to get involved, there are plenty of areas where we could use some help. Just get in touch with us via email/irc :-)
Dan
[1] Note: OpenID support requires the Weave add-on to be installed and configured, because your Weave account doubles as your OpenID provider.

Subject: Announcing Account Manager 0.0.1
Hi all,
I'm excited to announce the initial release of the Account Manager add-on.
As some of you already know, we have been experimenting with identity in the
browser through the Weave project. We implemented an automatic sign-in
feature, and added support for signing into OpenID sites with your Weave
account. As the core Weave add-on became closer to beta, however, we
decided to spin those components off into their own add-on so that we could
continue to grow them separately.
This initial release contains the auto sign-in and OpenID integration
features previously in Weave[1]. However, we have big plans for this
add-on, and among other things we are planning features that will help you
manage your online accounts (not just your passwords). Thus, we decided to
call it Account Manager.
To learn more about the project check out our requirements/planning wiki
here:
Hope you like it, let us know what you think! And if you want to get
involved, there are plenty of areas where we could use some help.

Dan
[1] Note: OpenID support requires the Weave add-on to be installed and
configured, because your Weave account doubles as your OpenID provider.
When you go to a page with a login field and you have a saved password
set in the login manager, you will see a small "key" icon in the
location bar, near the star icon. Clicking it allows you to log in
from there.
If the site is delivered over ssl (https url), then you will also have
the option to automatically sign in as soon as you hit a page with a
login form on that site.

Is it possible to delay the autologin feature for a few seconds or
so?
I ask this because I notice on a few sites that the autologin causes
the site to login slower then when you manually click on the login
button. I think it is because the autologin logs in on the site
directly when it opens and some sites cant respond on it properly, I
guess..
When the autologin is on, the sites waits to login when all the photos
on the login site are loaded and that takes a while sometimes,
however, when the autologin is off, the pictures on the login page
load in a split second :)
It looks like the autologin in feature delays the pictures to load
which delay the autologin to happen, although, that's my experience
with it, when the pictures are in cache, the autologin happens fast
I hope you understand my problem and can help me :)

Interesting; I guess what is probably happening is that when you do it
manually you can hit submit as soon as you see the form; whereas
autologin is waiting for the whole page to load (as best as it can
tell--it's actually pretty difficult to find out when a page has
finished loading).
We are focusing most of our efforts on coming up with a more formal
approach to signing in/out, so I don't think we'll spend too much time
on making the current hack work super smoothly... that said, patches
would be welcome ;-)

The account manager addon stop the right click menu of the weave
statusbar icon, and the menu item of weave. I can't force weave to
"Sync Now" anymore, unless I disable the account manager.
Do you see any errors in the error console? Look for ones related to
account manager or weave (web page errors also end up there, and
clutter everything up)

Yay, it's back. Thanks so much for continuing this, I thought it was
one of the best features of Weave and I'm glad it's staying closely
associated with Weave. My favourite thing is that it tells you if
there's multiple logins for a site and you can just choose them from
the drop down. I like the icon that comes up in the awesomebar to tell
you, I think it's a good way of notifying the user.
Dan, Wouldn't it also be better to put the 'automatic update' on, so
that the addon automatically updates when there is a new version?
Now it just said that it cant connect to the server when I check for
new versions.
It's better then allways manually check this wiki or the forum ;)
(and as the wiki saids, tomorrow will be a new version :P )
Thx

Hi, I'm wondering how I can use a different OpenID? I already use my
own provider (located at my WP Blog [OpenID: sebmeyer.de]) and would
like to use that instead of the weave one (or tell the weave OpenID
[archi] to forward to it).
pekkle: unlikely. I just did some searches and although we have some
scaffolding for l10n, we don't yet try to use any of it. I can
attempt to reproduce though, what language version of Firefox are you
running?
jrp: glad you like it!
Frederik: The addon includes an automatic update URL, but currently
there's nothing to automatically update *to*, so we haven't put an
update.xml file there. It will auto-update when we do release the
next thing.
Archimedes: Unfortunately the OpenID endpoint is not configurable
right now, for no good reason other than expedience. If you're
interested in making it a pref, I'd welcome such a patch :^)

I have the same problem as pekkle. I use the en-US nightly trunk build
on win7.
When I click the statusbar icon of weave or the tools menu item, error
console shows :
Error: gWeaveWin is undefined

Are you using a langpack? Where do I donwload the build you are using?
(I'm trying to find your combination on ftp.mozilla.org and I'm
failing to find any language builds).

Nevermind, I could reproduce the problem on a regular build. Account
manager was overwriting a Weave string bundle element, causing much
badness. The next release will fix it :-)
