How do I develop extensions for Prism? Will I be able to use existing
Firefox extensions or somehow migrate them into Prism? And, will they
have the power to perform desktop operations?

A good example might be using a Meebo notifier. I only get sound
notifications, but no visual ones.

Maybe add Prism the option to show desktop notifications whenever the
titlebar changes? That'll work for Gmail and all other apps that
change their title whenever something important happens.

I was wondering about using Firefox add-ons in Prism as well. Does
anybody know if all Firefox extensions will eventually be compatible?
Since you can create a new Prism application directly in Firefox, I
expected each one to just run an individual window of Firefox and
therefore support any add-ons the user currently has installed. It can
be difficult to use certain Web apps outside of Firefox without
extensions like Google Gears and Adblock Plus, both of which help
websites function much more like normal apps.

In a nutshell, don't expect Firefox extensions to port over with zero
work, as the UI that extensions overlay into is missing. I think this
is the right decision. Prism should be treated as a distinct use
case.

FWIW, I tinkered with writing a Prism-centric extension a few months
ago. Felt very similar to writing a Firefox extension.

Would you think that Greasemonkey would easily port to Prism? This
would be good so a third-party couoldmake a script that would let a
service like GMail interact with Prism (Notifications, etc.).

I doubt it would be that easy but I could be wrong. If anyone wants to
give it a try, I'm happy to help out with advice.
