Can someone please (devolve) bitch slap him a few times for the
"location bar" comment (evolve), I mean that with the best of
intent... I see only a FEW problems with it (mainly adding things like
unique formatting to make the important information eye catching, like
the actual domain in an address), but I can see MAJOR issues with
getting rid of it!
The BIGGEST one I can think of is how EASY it WILL become to engage in
website phishing... I mean for those who don't pay attention anyway
they will and are still hopeless, but for anyone ever going to an
address, or looking to see what site they are actually on after
following a link, this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, you
would effectively be crippling ANYONE and EVERYONE in this situation,
internet/browser savvy or not...
I (like others of unknown numbers) hate having to use the mouse more
and more and more and more, I like my keyboard dammit, if I wanted to
migrate to a touch screen desktop/laptop I would get one!
On the unrage side...
I WILL however agree that something needs to happen with it, not
remove it, but changes/additions/modifications! And example is the
firefox addon that I use to combine the Search and URL bar, to the
addon I used to have that went the extra bit and then compressed this
new hybrid bar down to only the text it contained (it had a feature
for smaller screens where it was either full size or half size of the
bar if the URL address was too big). To something like what Windows 7
does with folders (IE the location address isnt shown in the "explorer
URL bar" but if you click on it (not the folder, but next to it), it
shows you the full address (So it only Displays "Documents", click in
the URL field, and now it shows "C:\User\User\Documents") or if you
click on the domain (IE GMail would show up as like Google Mail or
GMail, or default with no settings Mail.Google.com or even Google Mail
Inbox (instead of https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox)
For god sakes however, to get rid of the URL bar is to invite anarchy
