Short description:
The main concept: view multiple pages at once, and save elements of
pages to task-based or habit-based 'sets.' Open a set and drag any
thumbnail of a saved page element into frames to load that element.
Although this prototype is a bit rigid, sets would in theory be very
flexible; all borders would be resizable, page elements could be added
to the thumbnail list or deleted at any time, and frames could be
exploded into separate windows or snapped back together.
Using this prototype:
Assume you have opened a saved set that includes your most commonly
visited websites. Drag any thumbnail from the left to the top or
bottom frames to load the page in that area. Click the 'hide' tab on
the top left to slide the thumbnails out of view, then click 'view' to
unhide the thumbnails. Toggle the scrollbars link (in the 'About'
area) to see the page with and without scrollbars. In the real working
version, I imagine users could push the contents of each frame around
- much like you can do with googlemaps. Although this prototype loads
full pages, the real version would load just that part of the page
that you wish to see; it could be your email inbox, the main content
area of digg, etc.
I created this prototype using HTML, CSS, Javascript and jquery.
Implications: changed browsing habits?
Having used this prototype myself for a few days now, I've noticed
that it seems to let me more efficiently browse through my 'regular'
sites. Perhaps having the other site thumbnails so immediately
present keeps me from spending as much time on any one page.
