hi
A rather female-orientated week at the movies, with 4 of the 6
titles
featuring female leads.
Big release this week is of course The Hunger Games, still kicking
up a
storm over in the US (and likely to remain at #1 for the 4th
weekend this
week).
If you're older and in the mood for something more gentle, check
out The
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which is an 'art' movie also showing
at several
commercial venues, and doing well.

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office.
"Is it true," she wanted to know, "that the medication you
prescribed has
to be taken for the rest of my life?"
"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied,
"I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this
prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'."
An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery and
he
insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation.
As he was about to get the anesthesia,he asked to speak to his
son.
"Yes, Dad, what is it?"
"Don't be nervous, son;do your best and just remember, if it
doesn't go
well, if something happens to me, your mother is going to come and
live
with you and your wife...."
Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your
age and
start bragging about it. This is so true. I love to hear them say
"you
don't look that old."
The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
First you forget names, then you forget faces.
Then you forget to pull up your zipper...
it's worse when you forget to pull it down.
A photographer went to a haunted castle determined to get a
picture of a
ghost which was said to appear only once in a hundred years.
Not wanting to frighten off the ghost, the photographer sat in the
dark
until midnight when the apparition became visible.
The ghost turned out to be friendly and consented to pose for one
snapshot.
The happy photographer carefully composed the shot then took the
picture.
He headed straight-way to his studio to develop the film. After
some anxious
waiting for the processing to finish, he looked at the negative
and groaned.
It was underexposed and completely blank.
Moral of the story: The spirit was willing, but the flash was
weak...
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator
of the
"Peanuts" comic strip.
You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read it
straight
through and you'll get the point:
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winner for best actor
and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are
no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.
But the
applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and
certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another
quiz. See how
you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult
time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and
special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones
with the most
credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They're the
ones that care.
