MORTALITY FORUM 2013-04-26 Q1 UPDATE 2

 Question from Monique Kosmala, Luxembourg

I have a certificate from a perinatal death

36+6 weeks of pregnancy,2095g female

With hygroma and cardiac failure.

So I do not find a specific Q or P code for this diagnosis, searching for Hygroma: D181.

Is there any more specific code except Q878?

Even when hygroma is often associated with chromosomal abnormalities, there was no mention on the certificate.

Thank you very much for your precious help.

From Dr. Luis Manuel Torres Palacios. Mexican Collaborating Center for FIC  (CEMECE):

The code is D18.1. You find it by the Index; even if you are coding a perinatal death. Hygroma can be congenital or cystic.

Q87.8 is not specific.

From Colin Fischbacher / Janice Hogg, Scotland

As Monique knows, there is an index entry for congenital or cystic hygroma that goes to D18.1. This seems more specific than Q87.8 and would seem to us to be a preferable code.
